Question
Can an existing non-ODAS enabled EMR cluster be upgraded in place to talk to an ODAS cluster?
Answer
While this is technically feasible, it is not recommended. This approach is error-prone and requires changes on *every* node on the EMR cluster in addition to the master.
The bootstrap script and Okera setup instructions simplify this process and preclude several classes of configuration missteps.
The suggested transition path is to spin up an ODAS-enabled EMR, and once it is setup, move users off of the non-ODAS-enabled-EMR to this new one. This approach has the benefit of ensuring that the existing EMR cluster is operational while the ODAS-enabled EMR cluster is configured and validated.
